You will find tips and samples of student work to help you get full marks.
General Tips
  • Write the name of the book that you have used at the top of each worksheet.
  • Read the questions carefully.
  • Fill out a worksheet as soon as you can so you can remember all of the details.
  • If you make a statement, back it up with evidence or an explanation.
1. Questioning

  • Complete this sheet before, during and after reading.
  • Make sure your questions are specific to the book you have just finished and not just general questions that could apply to any book.
2. Personal Review

3. Predicting & Inferring​

  • Complete this sheet before you start reading .
  • For the second box, make sure you refer to other texts.
4. Retelling

5. Character Report
TIPS
  • Complete this sheet after reading.
  • Make sure you complete all sections, including the friends and family.
  • Be careful that you don't mix up the book and movie versions as sometimes there are differences in characters e.g. Heartstopper
6. Visualising

  • In the circle, be as descriptive as you can.
  • You do need to include a drawing of your visualisation but the quality of the picture is not assessed. Just make sure it is clear what is happening in the picture.
7. Summarising

  • For the second half of the sheet, make sure you include the ten words you brainstormed in the bubble.

8. Making Connections

  • Remember that the word 'text' can refer to any creative work including books, movies, tv shows and computer games.
  • When it asks 'what ideas happen in real life?', you do not need to take this literally. If it is a fantasy or science fiction book, you can write about a character's actions or feelings too.
